Tokyo Katsu Curry
About This Spot
Tokyo Katsu Curry is a quietly inviting corner tucked within the lively Camp shopping area in Costa Mesa. Walking in, you immediately notice the unpretentious charm of a small neighborhood spot—modest yet purposeful, with a relaxed energy that feels both familiar and comforting. The hum of conversation blends with the hum of air conditioning, a welcome refuge from the Southern California heat, setting a casual pace that encourages slowing down and savoring the moment.
This is a place where the focus gently draws you toward the kitchen, where golden katsu crisps perfectly under a light, flavorful curry sauce that’s less thick than some, yet rich with nuance. The atmosphere feels reminiscent of an authentic, intimate Japanese curry shop, the kind you stumble upon in a side street in Tokyo. It’s not flashy, but it holds a quiet assurance in its flavors and the welcoming way the food is delivered.
There’s a thoughtful interplay on the menu with fresh, chewy udon noodles and tender tonkatsu, alongside playful additions like potato croquettes and vibrant spinach that brighten the plates. The experience is homey, with a subtle attention to how each element complements another—from the light omelette resting on the signature curry sauce to the satisfying crunch that echoes comfort with every bite.
The place draws a mixture of loyal locals and curious first-timers who appreciate its approachable authenticity. Though the space might be small and the seasoning straightforward rather than overtly bold, it balances a familiar warmth and just enough novelty to make each visit feel like a quiet discovery. Whether nestled in for a relaxed solo lunch or sharing a hearty plate with a friend, Tokyo Katsu Curry offers a humble, unhurried moment to enjoy food crafted with steady care.

curry! katsu curry is some of my favorite food to get. my friend and i usually like to go to the same place over and over, but i think this was a great new place to try. place is a little small inside, but we didn't have to wait. strong ac inside even on a hot day. crunchy katsu, delicious curry, and a light but tasty omelette. would totally go back to try some other things!

This is for sure one of my favorite curry shops in all of OC. The atmosphere is great. Super casual and it does really remind me of the tiny little restaurants I've eaten at in Japan. Their add-ons are shockingly cheap and the curry is quite delicious. I think my only complaint is that some of the meats aren't heavily seasoned or spiced, so they can be a little plain. The curry itself is plenty flavorful though, so you dont really notice that the meats are less seasoned. I go here a lot and I love it every single time. Highly recommend.

Small hole in the wall restaurant at The Camp. It's a pretty busy parking lot, but the food was delicious. I shared a large plate and it was more than enough. The curry sauce was yummy, but definitely less thick compared to some other places I've been, but it's not a bad thing, just different. Worth trying at least once

We wanted to try this place out and compare it with coco Ichibanya. I loved this place more. I’m a huge udon lover and their noodle is very chewy and tasted fresh. The curry base was delicious too, not too thick and very flavorful. Highly recommend!

Went here about a month ago and it was delicious. Now the portion sizes are awesome. The curry was pretty awesome, especially if you get the hot one it was savory and hot, I cant say if the other ones are any different but they are going to be great. But overall the food was good, the rice isn't the best of the best but its still good rice. I mean after all you are eating it with curry so its not like you will be tasting the rice only. Overall the dish was a good balance even though i wanted more rice but then again that is just me because i wanted to keep eating . Will be back again!!

I found the best Japanese Katsu Curry in Orange County. The Chicken Katsu was very delicious, and the curry sauce had a great taste. The service was so pleasant, which made the food even more delicious. I will definitely come here often.

I am new to the area and was craving some pork katsu curry . Found this place and wow . Legit best katsu curry I have had in my entire life . So flavorful. Love how they include extra curry powder so you can customize your flavor and spice levels. Perfect amount of rice and curry. Friendly fast service I was taking it to go and the guy told me it would be 15 minutes but it was a bit faster. Got the large size with extra katsu and it filled me up. Would definitely go here again.
